The cashier of this company, Mr. W. Marshall, stated that they employ about 220 men, and that the pays are fortnightly. He admitted that the men had been in the habit of dealing with McAra, (a person mentioned under the head of the Glasgow Iron Company) but the cashier had stopped this after he heard the evidence relating to the transactions of the Glasgow Iron Company and McAra. He introduced lines last July without the knowledge of the manager, his object being to do away with cash advances. Though McAra had twice offered him 4% commission he had refused it, “as the thing had not had a sufficient trial.”
